Job Description
This is an opportunity for an experienced, ambitious and commercially minded solicitor with a minimum of 5 years' PQE, with a strong background in Property Litigation, to join our business in an in-house capacity.\nThe role is primarily focused on managing and advising upon contentious property matters arising across our substantial commercial property portfolio. You will work closely with senior management, property managers and external advisers in protecting the company's interests and resolving disputes effectively and commercially.\nIn addition to the litigation and dispute resolution aspects of the role, you will also provide legal support on a range of commercial property, asset management and landlord and tenant matters, giving you exposure to the full lifecycle of property ownership and management.\nThis is a varied and hands-on position offering the opportunity to become closely involved in both the legal and commercial decision-making of a substantial property business.\nKey Responsibilities\nProperty Litigation & Dispute Resolution:\nManaging a broad range of property litigation matters across the portfolio.\nAdvising on and handling: Dilapidations claims; Lease enforcement actions; Possession proceedings; Forfeiture and relief from forfeiture; Rent arrears and service charge disputes; Tenant covenant breaches; Rights of way and easement disputes; Boundary disputes; Restrictive covenant issues; Drainage and access disputes.\nManaging disputes through negotiation, mediation, tribunal proceedings and litigation where required.\nAdvising management on litigation risk and dispute resolution strategy.\nLandlord & Tenant Matters\nAdvising on a broad range of landlord and tenant issues across the portfolio.\nSupporting the Asset & Property Management Teams on lease interpretation and enforcement.\nAdvising on rent reviews, lease renewals and contested lease matters.\nAssisting with asset management initiatives from a legal and risk management perspective.\nDebt Recovery & Enforcement\nManaging commercial debt recovery matters.\nAdvising on enforcement options where tenants are in breach of lease obligations.\nOverseeing recovery strategies relating to arrears, insolvency situations and lease defaults.\nCommercial Property & Asset Management\nAdvising on and managing freehold and leasehold acquisitions and disposals.\nDrafting and negotiating commercial leases, licences and associated property documentation.\nSupporting asset management initiatives including lease renewals, variations and agreements for lease.\nProviding commercial property advice across the wider business as required.\nGeneral Commercial & Contractual Matters\nHandling contractual disputes connected with property matters.\nAdvising on a variety of litigation and legal issues affecting the portfolio.\nSupporting the business with general legal and risk management matters where required.\nCandidate Profile\nWe are looking for an individual who can combine strong technical legal expertise with commercial awareness and a practical approach to problem-solving.\nYou will have:\n * Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales\n * A minimum of 5 years' PQE\n * Strong experience in Property Litigation\n * Experience advising on landlord and tenant disputes\n * A solid understanding of commercial property law and practice\n * Experience of managing matters independently from instruction through to resolution\nYou will also demonstrate:\n * Strong commercial judgement\n * Excellent drafting, negotiation and dispute resolution skills\n * The ability to provide practical, business-focused advice\n * Confidence in working directly with senior management\n * The ability to manage a varied workload independently\n * A proactive and solutions-focused approach\nWhy Join Us\nThis is a rare opportunity to join a long-established, privately owned property company in a key in-house legal role.\nYou will benefit from:\n * Exposure to a large and varied commercial property portfolio\n * A role with a strong focus on property litigation and dispute resolution\n * A broad and interesting legal workload extending across property, asset management and commercial matters\n * Direct involvement in commercial decision-making\n * A collaborative and entrepreneurial working environment\n * The opportunity to play a meaningful role in the continued growth of our business
